"title": "Togen 1.7.5: Weekly update. OCR interconnects and workflows, Printer support, Repair Parts Manager, and more!!!",
"body": "# A lot of updates for the week, but a brief review.\n- **OCR Workflows:** Many direct interconnects with the *OCR* engine and *workflows* that will allow you to select a file in **File Browser**, an attachment to an **Email**, when finding Project Record fields in **Project Builder**, or creating a *Carrier Sheet* in **Single Carrier Sheet** or **Take-off Bridge**, and process them with *OCR* to make any text selectable, searchable, and usable.\n - Also, if you have an Anthropic Claude account, you can add an API key into your *User Settings* under *Assistant*. The **Togen Assistant** can help you find documents, send them into **Project Builder** to add a part to it, then *Workflow* it into **Take-off Bridge** to aggregate all the file sources, make publicly available documents, and create *Carrier Sheets.*\n - Why I mention this now, a Claude account connected to your Togen Assistant, can significantly improve the **OCR** features. If you find yourself needing to OCR more complex documents, and if that would be a help to be text selectable and searchable, or you would like Togen to get data out of those complex documents, submit a *Support Request* and we'll help you set that up.\n- **Printer support!:** Direct printer support for network printers. Seperation of document and label printers, and *User Settings* overrides for your own default printer for document and label printers that are most convenient to you or to print directly to those who need the labels or hard copies. Printers you would like enabled for each feature, submit a *Support Request* (Under the *?* menu in the top bar), and we will get those printers made available to you.\n- **Repair Parts Manager:** The new **RPM** tool captures a view of any parts added to *Work Orders* by those who submit a *WO* or *Work Order Admins* while processing them. Tracking information is *beta* and in testing currently. If you order parts, Togen will request the tracking number when marking a parts as *Ordered*, the **RPM** can track the part, change the *WO* status on delivery, and provide notification emails on those events. You can always skip inputing a tracking number, but if you have one, Togen can do some inteligent things with it.\n- **And many more small items:**\n - Such as better upload status and progress bar when you upload documents directly with **File Browser**, especially useful when uploading multiple files.\n - **Email** default to only showing you emails that have attachments you can use with *Workflows*.\n - A new PDF file viewer, curently in use where printing is not required until we get all the printers added to the new **Togen Print Agent**.\n - *Calendar* in **Work Order Admin** so you can directly see *WOs* that have due dates coming up, or to help plan your day or week.\n - And many small improvements across nearly every tool.\n**Thanks once more for those who've read this far and are interested in getting the most out of Togen!**",

"title": "Togen 1.7.4: Weekly update. Search, OCR, File Browser for everyone, more notification types, and more!!!",
"body": "# Update catch up for this week.\n\n- **Search**: Sitewide search is now available, click on the magnifying glass in the top left, and search for a tool or Project. This will give you quick options to get started.\n\n--\n- **OCR!:** A new *Optical Character Recognition* tool has been initially added. Those annoying PDF files you receive as Operator Manuals, scanned documents, converted documents, etc. are often not text selectable; This makes it impossible to copy and paste text from them, or to search the text of them. Try the new **OCR** tool, upload a *PDF, DOC, DOCX,* or *JPG* or *PNG* image with text in it. It will process this and give you a layer of detected text. **OCR** is currently in testing and will improve going forward.\n\n - This becomes incredibly powerful in Togen, with the integration between tools and *Workflows*. For example, for the *Take-off folks*, try generating a *Carrier Sheet* from scratch in **Take-off Bridge**. It will ask you for *Customer/Contractor Name*, which Togen does not have directly, or not from Project files. It will ask for that information when it needs it, on that popup you will find a button for *OCR Discovery*. This will process with **OCR** the documents, drawings, etc. in the project folder to find that information for you. As always, you should validate the discovered bit of information, and you may edit the fields it populates with what it thinks applies to those fields. The more we use this, the better it will get.\n\n--\n- **Equipment Manuals** are now searchable thanks to this **OCR** tool. Directly chaining that workflow into a simple search box on the **Equipment Manuals** tool, now searches otherwise unsearchable documents.\n\n--\n- **File Browser** is now open to everyone with Togen access. You will have different tabs for what data you have been granted access to. If you have any tool that relates to files you may want to interact with, it will expose them under a tab. You may notice the *Attachments* tab. This will show you a list from your email account that have attachments available. You can select one of these attachments, save it to a Project, open it in **Production Run**, add to **Equipment Manuals**, etc.\n\n - Under *Settings*, you will find *Notifications*. Here you can add a Project folder to watch. Any changes to this folder you will be notified by email. *Waiting on others to finish files for a project you are working?* Add a *Folder Watcher* Notification, and Togen will let you know where there are changes.\n - If you will provide me some context for what you may be watching for, I can assemble a *Folder Watcher* configuration item that would let you know when certain criteria have been met and a project may be ready for you to work it thru a process in Togen. Again, just surfacing the *information you need, when you need it, where you can work with it.*\n - You will find this *Folder Watcher* in other places as well. Start a project in **Project Builder** and you will find a checkbox to *Enable notifications about this Project*. This will add this project folder to your *Folder Watcher* notifications.\n - If and when you find a *Folder Watcher* notification no longer necessary, under your *User Settings -> Notifications* you will find all the *Folder Watcher* notifications you have set up, you can remove any that are no longer valuable from here.\n - Or set an Expiration on a *Folder Watcher*, and it will clear itself up for you.\n - Or, in the email notification you will receive, there will a link to Remove this notification.\n\n- **Togen** is all about showing you the inputs for data you may need to work with, give you tools to work with it, and workflows and workflow chains to move that data thru various tools.\n\n--\n- All this power and flexibility doesn't have to be unpleasant to use, however. You've hopefully been enjoying the new user interface and *iCast* background included in last week's 1.7.3 update. But Togen also provides you some choices to customize this.\n - Under the *User Profile* menu, upper right, are *User Settings*. There you will find some choices to make the user experience of Togen more tailored to you.\n - *Does light or dark mode work better as your default?*\n - *Do you prefer the flat style with no transparency?*\n - All valid choices. But you can also set your own Background. On the *User Interface* pane, in the *Background* menu, choose *Custom*. This will let you upload an image to use as your Background. *Working on an awesome project, snap a picture and upload it... want to see your family on the Background, wonderful... a fast car for inspiration... it's your interface to the tools.*\n - You can now also set how many tiles wide you want, if you would prefer a list view (this works very well in a small browser window or web app set to the side of your screen, keeping your Togen tools handy). Or in *User Settings* you can set how much padding is on each side of the Tools grid. This should make Togen more accommodating to your unique use.\n\n--\n- Lastly. If you have a tool that would be a help to you, under the *Help* menu, *Feature Request* gives you an easy path to start that conversation. Also, for normal IT Help Desk issues, under **Work Order Request** you will find the **IT Help Desk** type. This will create a ticket with your friendly local IT guys, Voyage. Please continue to call or text, especially for urgent issues, but this will let you start a ticket for issues you are experiencing without getting in your way. We look forward to helping you will all your technology goals and issues.\n\n- Thank you for your interest in keeping up with, using, and improving iCast's tools platform, **Togen!** This is how we *Pull it Forward*. Have a wonderful week!",

"title": "Togen 1.7.3 is live! Project Builder is enabled, Safety Work Order type, Notifications, UI...",
"body": "# Big update completed over the weekend.\n\n- **Notifications,** Under the *User Profile* menu (top right) -> *User Settings* -> on the *Notifications* pane. All users see their Subscription status for Togen News. If you have access to tools that enable a Notification component, for example, Work Order Admins, go check and enable notifications as you see fit. These are all disabled by default, it is opt-in instead of filling your inbox.\n\n- **Project Builder** tool is now enabled for users with *Take-off* access. Building a new project, it will generate the csv document and project record for other workflows in Togen, and allow you to attach products. Then using the *Workflow* menu, you can *Open in Take-off Bridge* to attach drawings for those products. Over time of learning these associations, we look to provide auto detection of drawings to products with user validation.\n - **Project Builder** tool also provides an *Open* button to open an existing project. Due to variations in naming conventions, **Project Builder** currently requires duplication of the project folder so it gets assigned a Togen Project Number. We can adjust this behavior in the future. This is intended to be safe behavior during testing.\n\n - *Project Builder should be considered in **TESTING** status.*\n\n- **Safety Work Orders** added as a new work order type. **Work Order Request** now presents users the opportunity to submit a work order for safety concerns.\n\n- **Work Order Admin** has added support to address *Safety Work Orders*. Also notice the *Activity Pane* at the top of the **Work Order Admin** tool. You may also have noticed the *Active Tile* on the Togen Tools home page that provides a cursory view of work order activity.\n\n- **New User Interface Design** is active now as default. Take a look at the dark and light modes. But these are just the defaults. Under your **User Settings** you can override these settings. You can set your view to flat, that is without the transparency or the *iCast* corporate logo background. Or you can simple turn up or down the level of transparency to make it the easiest to see for your preference. We've provided for seperate transparency settings for dark and light mode if you find yourself switching back and forth often as I do.\n\n - The default behavior for Mobile Devices is to enforce *flat*. This seems to work best in variable lighting.\n - If you haven't tried Togen on your phone, what are you waiting for? I recommend: On iPhone/iPad, open [Togen](https://togen.icastinc.com) in Safari, browse to togen.icastinc.com -> *Share* menu -> *View More* -> *Add to Home Screen*. This will provide a close to a native app experience and Togen has been designed from the begining to treat mobile devices as first class citizens.\n\n**Lastly:** *Why \"Togen\"?*\n- *Togen* is the past participle of the Old English verb *t\u0113on*, which means to draw or pull.\n- The term *togen* in Old English literature is often associated with the concept of *fate* or *destiny*, reflecting the beliefs of the Anglo-Saxon culture regarding the inevitability of certain events.\n- Or its short for *TOol GENerator*, and I was turned loose with Google for a moment and thought myself clever.\n- Built as a platform to build and access tools, chain them into workflows, and impact operations. But *TOol BUilder*: **TOBU** just didn't have the same ring to it.\n\nThank you and have a **Wonderful Week!**",

"title": "Updates in Togen 1.7.2: Create Carrier Sheets from scratch, File Browser workflows, and more",
"body": "# Create Carrier Sheets from scratch functionality is now live in both the **Single Carrier Sheet** tool and the **Take-off Bridge** tool.\n\n- **Single Carrier Sheet** is the easiest way to explore this new functionality. Simply provide your *Drawing*, or *Drawing and Submittal* documents, and Togen will default to Create. If you have an existing Carrier Sheet, you can add it to the QR Carrier Sheet selector \u2014 or leave it on Create. When you **Generate Carrier PDF**, Togen will prompt you for any missing fields such as *Customer Name, Project Name, etc.* Since providing documents alone doesn't give Togen much project context, expect to fill in more values in the Project Record popup at that step.\n\n- **Take-off Bridge** is where the full power of this update becomes more apparent. If Togen detects an existing Carrier Sheet, it will generate QR codes and merge them into that sheet as before \u2014 no change there. If no Carrier Sheet is detected, **Take-off Bridge** will default to Create, and on **Submit** will prompt you for any missing Project Record values needed to populate the new Carrier Sheet. You can also click the **X** on any detected document, including the Carrier Sheet, to force Togen to default to Create.\n\n- **Project Builder** is getting closer to general release. It can now create a new Project Record from scratch, draft the required CSVs, and set up a Project Record to make future **Take-off Bridge** use significantly smoother. It also supports opening existing projects, editing them, adding or removing products, and launching directly into the **Take-off Bridge** from a Workflow. Some existing projects have quirks in their formatting, filenames, or structure that require human input to resolve \u2014 as those cases are collected, Togen will learn to handle them automatically. **Project Builder** is currently disabled for most users until edge case demonstration is complete. The current roadmap calls for **Project Builder** to be usable and enabled for all users with Take-off permissions in the upcoming 1.7.3 release.\n\nAs always, thank you for your continued feedback \u2014 **it's what drives Togen forward**",

This may be handy for simple generated links, that you can email to others, or to yourself as a png for other uses.\n\nThis tool also shows the power of Togen as it can be chained to other tools as a workflow. For example, you may open the File Browser tool, go select a PDF file, and under the Workflow menu, select Open in Simple QR Creator. That will give you a properly formatted QR code as an item you can copy to your clipboard, send to others, or as a png you can use in other ways. If you select a CSV file, the Workflow menu will show you the option to Open in Take-off Bridge.\n\nAlso, you may now set the order of the tools on the Togen Tools home page, turn off tools you don't intend to use, or Request Access to additional tools available within Togen that may require additional permissions. These options are available under Settings from the User Menu in the top right corner.",
